81 Vine: 81 Vine St
Built in 1914 this box factory, later a printing company was converted to a residential/retail/office loft building by Architect Caroline Geise FAIA and her son Matt Geise, a developer, in 1999. The designers preserved the historic composition of brick and timber and added 2 stories of Penthouses with roof top gardens on the pre-existing structure; all 24 homes in the building are unique in size, layout and views. 81 Vine’s renovation was one of Seattle’s earliest projects composed and executed while keeping the environment in mind. The design contributed to the Growing Vine Street project with artist-designed drainage elements, plantings, terraces and sidewalk improvements that run the length of Vine Street and begin to connect the waterfront to the Seattle Center.
